Loney, Dear on the Road so far away

March 27, 2008

I caught wind of these tracks just this evening, and I love them already. I feel the same way about Loney, Dear albums as I do about The Shins. The same way I felt about albums in 7th grade. It used to be all about buying a CD and listening to the whole thing. You got an album for 2 or 3 songs, and just loved the rest. Few are those you can put on autoplay and do your thing.

It’s always a crap shoot with bands and their live performances. Safe to say, Loney, Dear has some great live stuff. These tracks are precious to me because from the looks of things, these guys won’t be coming out here any time soon.

The “I don’t have time to categorize a post” mixbag post of delicious…

March 18, 2008

Yeah, I am still working on hosting this blog on its own domain. In the meantime, you can read my playlist for the last few days. These are the songs I can’t get enough of.. old or new, they’re amazing.

On that note… I got my tix to Vampire Weekend for the 31st in Salt Lake, and am looking forward to rocking the SSLYBY show in May. Any meet ups will be welcome if you’re local. Maybe I’ll rock a fanboy t-shirt or something.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Dead Right

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks – We Can’t Help It

Smoosh – Find A Way

Musiq Souldchild f. Estelle – People Everyday (Arrested Development Cover)

Self – What A Fool Believes

Few are the people who can stomach this remake by Self, but I love it.  I heard one non-fan describe it as barking dogs… sad.

Moving??

March 15, 2008

I know there’s like 15 people that read Mitzvah… so I thought I’d let you know.

I bought a domain today, and will be moving over there asap. So therefore, I’m working on gettin that going. I may not post here for a day or two. Sorry, but lets hope my domain is so sweet that you’ll want to weep. /crossfingers

By Request – Architecture in Helsinki

March 10, 2008

I love Architecture in Helsinki. I didn’t at first, but my buddy Ben told me to listen some more.

You listen to some albums and hear children’s cartoon music. Other’s have tranquil indie pop with more positive sound than you’re ready for. Their newest outing is a lot more modest-mousey and has a raw indie feel. The differences gel though, and it’s amazing.

That being said, consider yourself warned. If you don’t have enough endurance to stick it out the first listen, you may not be convinced. If you do, you’ll find yourself a huge fan.

These songs are all so different, so you can’t just take one…. enjoy.

Architecture in Helsinki – Wishbone

Architecture in Helsinki – It’s 5!

Architecture in Helsinki – Do The Whirlwind

Architecture in Helsinki – Debbie

Architecture in Helsinki – Heart it Races (watch the video a few times and you’ll be in love with it)

More Bird and the Bee

March 10, 2008

I guess since it’s my blog, I can be redundant.

I love the original version of this song. Despite not having much of a stomach for more Bee Gees than an occasional listen, this has always been a favorite.

This version by Bird and the Bee leaves something to be desired, but that’s a good thing. Like a desireable tease, it builds to be just enough to give you something to listen to, but you expect some more sound in it. It’s all too good. Great remake.
